Welcome to Golconda

2008 River to River RelayNestled in the foothills of the Shawnee National Forest, Golconda sparkles like a diamond on the banks of the mighty Ohio River. As a matter of fact the definition of the word 'golconda' is 'a source of great wealth (especially a mine)' according to Princeton University.

Those residents that have chosen to call Golconda home will agree and we hope you will, too!

Golconda shares the name with one other city in the US, Golconda, Nevada (pop. 443).

If you crave a laid back lifestyle and friendly locals, Golconda is your kind of place. Pope County is the only county in Illinois that has only one 4-way stop. Located at the top of Main Street in Golconda. Pope County also boasts not one single stop light county-wide.

But what we do have is breathtaking. Sweeping vistas, long country roads, a plethora of outdoor activities, world-class wineries, and a suprise around every corner.
