Well an old Corporate client of mine in Florida used to tell me when I called him early in the morning, when I asked him how he was doing (at age 75), “I’m doing great, it’s a great day, I am 6’ up rather than the alternative. I could be 6’ under”.

Welcome to Golconda

2008 River to River RelayNestled in the foothills of the Shawnee National Forest, Golconda sparkles like a diamond on the banks of the mighty Ohio River. As a matter of fact the definition of the word 'golconda' is 'a source of great wealth (especially a mine)' according to Princeton University.

History of Pope County and Golconda Illinois

As part of the Indiana Territory, the land we call Pope County was a gateway to the west. In 1798, Major James Lusk moved his ferry business to the Illinois side of the Ohio River. Finding a perfect alcove between two hills, Lusk built his home flanked on three sides by water.

The ferry, located at the mouth of the creek that now bears his name, Major Lusk's ferry attracted people of all ages and backgrounds as they pushed westward looking for a better future.
